Award Winning Projects

What were some challenges you faced while working on these award-winning projects, and how did you overcome them?

I had two award-winning projects this year. The first was a kitchen remodel, where the client felt unheard by the designer. I used her collection of Italian pottery as inspiration, adjusting the design and selecting fabrics to pull the look together. The Balloon valance, featuring RM Coco fabric and tassel fringe, took first place in Top Treatment Design. The second project, for a client who loved French design, used a soft fabric tailored into Balloon shades. Despite the fabric’s challenges, the shades, accented with key tassels and coral cording, were installed before a family reunion.

How have these awards impacted your business and your professional reputation in the industry?

The awards have significantly boosted my credibility, especially as a new business. They have attracted quality-oriented clients and reinforced my brand, Masterworks Window Fashions & Design, LLC. Awards also opened doors to networking opportunities and friendships within the industry, which has been incredibly fulfilling. My investment in professional photography for competition entries has enhanced my online presence and brought more leads through platforms like Houzz.

WCAA

What are your future aspirations for your business and your involvement with WCAA?

I have no desire to retire anytime soon, as long as my eyes still see color correctly, and I can handle the physical demands of hauling samples to clients. I am available as a Speaker on both color trends and selection for the home, and custom window treatment design, as well as sales skills in our field.  I have two projects I hope to complete in time to enter in the 2026 Design competition.  I hope to continue my involvement with WCAA and stay engaged in leadership roles. I continue to brainstorm with my local WCAA chapter in our monthly Design Dilemma conversations.

Can you share more about your experiences and achievements during your terms as President and now as Vice-President of WCAA Nova?

As a leader in our chapter, I have focused on offering diverse programs that cater to all members, from designers to artisans. We’ve also prioritized creating a supportive environment where members can share ideas and resources. Our chapter’s longevity amidst various challenges is a testament to our commitment to each other and the organization.

Expert Advice

What advice would you give to aspiring designers and entrepreneurs in the window coverings industry?

Embrace the role of a salesperson as much as that of a designer. Understanding client needs and effectively communicating design ideas is essential for success. I believe in charging a consultation fee to ensure serious clients who value your expertise. Also, maintaining a long-term perspective is crucial, as there will always be ups and downs in this business. Build strong relationships with your artisans and installers, as they are key to delivering quality work and customer satisfaction.

What motivates you to take on a role as a speaker and educator in the window coverings industry?

I have been inspired by many mentors in the industry, and I believe in giving back. It’s important to pass on knowledge to the next generation of designers. I find great joy in sharing my experiences and encouraging others to push the boundaries of creativity in window treatment design.

Linda Bassert’s journey in the window coverings industry shows passion, creativity, and a commitment to excellence. Her insights and experiences serve as an inspiration to young designers and established professionals alike. As she continues to innovate and share her knowledge, Linda not only elevates her own business but also contributes to the growth and development of the entire window treatment community. We look forward to seeing her future projects and the positive impact she will make within the industry and more!
