Ed Morgans’ career in the window covering industry is a testament to the power of adaptability and lifelong learning. Transitioning from a background in computer engineering to becoming a skilled window treatment installer, Ed has embraced his new path with enthusiasm and dedication.
Ed’s journey into the window covering industry began with a desire for a career change and a need within his family’s business. His mother, Peggy Morgans, built Parkway Window Works for over 20 years, and Ed saw an opportunity to contribute to the business’s growth. Combining his problem-solving skills from his engineering background with his passion for hands-on work, Ed has quickly become a proficient installer.
Our Conversation with Ed
Can you tell us a little about your background and how you got started in the window coverings industry?
"I went to school for computer engineering and worked as a software developer for a decade. I was looking for a career change, and my mother Peggy Morgans needed installation help to grow her business, Parkway Window Works."
What inspired you to pursue a career in this field?
"I watched my mother build Parkway Window Works for over 20 years since I was a child. Personally, I’ve always enjoyed hands-on work and thought I’d have an aptitude for installing window treatments, which has turned out to be true."
What are some of your proudest accomplishments in your career so far?
"Recently, I completed a drapery install with a particular kind of hardware for the third time. The first time was a simple application in my own bedroom while this most recent job was much more complicated. It was satisfying to see my progression as an installer."

What does receiving the WCAA Jill Robson Memorial Scholarship mean to you?
"The scholarship will give me the means to gain knowledge to continue growing as an installer. This means being able to contribute to my family’s business and continue my mother’s legacy."
How do you plan to use the scholarship funds for your professional development?
"I plan to use the funds for Behind the Design’s Window Treatments 101, which will give me knowledge on many types of window treatments to better serve my customers."
What advice would you give to others in the industry who are considering applying for this scholarship?
"I would say to consider all your career experience, even that which is not directly in the window coverings industry. My engineering background gave me problem-solving skills which I use during every install."

Professional Journey
How do you stay motivated and continue to grow in your profession?
"Since I am coming into a new industry and have much to learn, I focus on gaining as much knowledge as possible. I think it’s best to draw on the experience of peers and experts in the industry, so I spend as much time as I can learning."
Can you share a memorable moment or experience from your career that has had a significant impact on you?
"I attended the IWCE and Exciting Windows conferences back in April. I was very nervous at the time but found everyone to be very welcoming and supportive, which gave me hope for my future in the industry."
How has being part of the WCAA community influenced your professional journey?
"It's been helpful to have the resources and support of peers in my learning journey. I think it's much better to learn from others than make the same mistakes that already have solutions."
